ACU Work Integrated Learning

Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is a critical component in preparing students to make the leap into their new careers. But with multiple campuses, faculties and courses the experience was inconsistent, disjointed and difficult for ACU Students, Staff and Partner Organisations to navigate.

W3.Digital designed and built WIL at ACU – a new, standalone website to showcase and support student placements.

The experience was co-designed with ACU through a number of agile design sprints, providing rapid iteration of potential solutions until prioritisation was formed on the best approach.

  • We worked with a huge range of stakeholders to help define the vision, and identify measures of success
  • Agile user stories were created, and prioritised, generating a roadmap for now and release phases in the future
  • Wireframes and a prototype brought the concept to life
  • The final product was then pair-developed through a cross-functional team of W3.Digital UX / UI designers, and front-end developers
  • The national launch by the VC (to external Partner Organisations) was supported by live scenario demonstration

The new website provides a central point of information and support relating to Work Integrated Learning for Faculty of Education and Arts and Faculty of Health Sciences students, staff, and University partners, including hospitals, education centres and schools.

It has radically simplified the delivery of placements across ACU – increasing accessibility and improving the experience for student, staff and ACU’s external Partner Organisations.

Features of the new website includes a deep level of personalisation, tailored checklists, tools and forms required to plan and execute placements, a help centre and video case studies from students and partners.

With higher than expected site visits and very positive feedback from students, staff and partners, the site has won the 2017 VC Staff Excellence Award for Service Innovation.
